Music Studio Policy
Lesson Cancellations and Make-Up Lessons:
1. Cancellation Notice: Students are asked to provide a minimum of 24 hours notice for lesson cancellations. Any missed lesson is forfeit. This is for any reason, including illness, emergency, or weather road closure. An online lesson is always possible if car trouble, illness, or weather is an issue.
2. Make-Up Lessons: Due to having a large studio, I am unable to offer make-up lessons for any reason. Credits will only be given if the teacher is not able to give the regularly scheduled lesson, or to make-up the lesson at a different time suitable for the student. If another student has a cancellation, you may be offered their spot to make-up the missed lesson.
Payment Policy:
3. Payment Due Date: Tuition fees are due on the first day of every month. Once payment is made, the lessons are booked, and all fees are non-refundable. The client (student/parent) is allowed to request time off, or to request a permanent time slot change, before the lesson payment is made each month, but once payment is made I cannot accommodate any time changes. If consistently late, you will be referred to another studio.
4. Payment Methods: I accept payments in the form of cash, or electronic payments (e.g., bank transfers or online payment platforms). Please make electronic payments payable to: sjdemaer@gmail.com
5. Tuition Rates: Tuition rates are subject to review and adjustment on an annual basis. Any changes to tuition rates will be communicated to students and parents with at least one month’s notice. Currently, rates are $35 per 30 minutes, $52.50 per 45 minutes, and $70 per 60 minutes.
Student Recitals:
6. Recital Schedule: We hold student recitals twice per year to showcase the progress and talents of our students. The recitals are typically scheduled for the following months: early December and early June.
7. Participation: All students are encouraged to participate in these recitals as they provide valuable performance experience. Participation is not mandatory but highly recommended.
8. Repertoire Selection: Students should work with their teacher to select appropriate pieces for the recitals well in advance. The teacher will help students prepare for their performance.
Attendance and Punctuality:
9. Regular Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for progress in music education. Students are expected to arrive promptly for their scheduled lessons with their instruments, books, and related materials. Late arrival will result in a shortened lesson to accommodate my schedule and other student’s schedules.
10. Permanent Lesson Time Change: Please consult with me before booking lessons for the month if a permanent lesson time change is needed, and I will work with you to provide a suitable time.
Studio Environment:
11. Respect for Property: Please treat all studio equipment and instruments with care and respect. Any damage to studio property caused by a student will be the responsibility of the student or their guardian.
12. Noise Levels: While waiting for lessons, students and parents are requested to maintain a quiet environment to ensure a conducive atmosphere for music education.
Communication:
13. Communication Channels: The primary mode of communication will be via email and phone text message. Please ensure that your contact information is up to date to receive important updates and announcements.
14. Emergencies: In case of emergencies or unexpected circumstances, please inform the teacher as soon as possible.
Expectations
15. Practice Habits: A student must regularly practice to make progress in their studies. The teacher advises the same length as your lesson time 4-5 days per week. If the student ceases to practice for a long period, the teacher may advise them to cancel lessons. Any questions on how to establish practice habits are welcome!
